Under $20 Beauty Essentials

admin | September 8, 2011

Tinted Moisturizer: Add a little sheen and give a little coverage to you skin with a non-clogging tinted moisturizer. Along with sun protection and flawless finish, an easily absorbed moisturizer also preserves the natural oil balance in your skin. If the summers went by without you getting too fixated on any particular one, try the Aveeno Positively Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30 and natural soy complex($16-$18).

Blushes: These are definitely a girl’s best friend or two best friends because you need one in cream and one powder, depending on the weather. I prefer powder going into fall/winter and creamy ones for summers. Make sure that at least one is a natural looking color close to your skin tone like soft rose or peach. The other can be a bronze or something more dramatic for an evening look. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blends Sheer Highlight delivers the right touch at about $12. But going over the mark a bit, we swear by Estee Lauder Signature Cream & Signature Powder blushes for about $26 each. Apply in moderation and blend the blush well to not look amateurish.

Eye shadow: Make your peepers look outstanding, either with dramatic hues or smoky shadow or just add an au-natural touch for daywear. But whichever way you look at it, eye shadow does make your entire look. We like super pigmented ones that build in color easily like Bare Escentuals Mineral eye shadows at about $13 for each hue or the L’Oreal HIP Bright Duos Shadow with two colors and the staying power of more expensive brands at just $8.

Mascara and eye pencil: Both are extremely essential for opening up your eyes and adding definition. Pencil should be in brown or/and black depending on the look you want to create and look for smudge and water proof products. Drugstore brands like Maybelline work very well for this everyday beauty essential with the Maybelline Lash Stylist Comb waterproof mascara ($15) and the Maybelline Cream eye pencils ($6).

Make-up remover: If you are going to wear make-up, removing it is an absolute must at the end of the day. The Zinn Beauty Velvet Facial Cleansing Milk replenished with its rich formula as it cleans. While go the go try cleansing towels instead like the Purity Facial Cleansing Cloths ($20).

Au-Natural Beauty:Sans Photoshop

admin | August 15, 2011

Wishing you looked like the flawless skinned model on a centre-fold? Even the most rational of us find ourselves guilty of this wishful thinking. Years of being exposed to glossy magazine covers and crafty marketing ploys has programmed us to believe that we could just airbrush our blemishes and wrinkles away, but everyone is seemingly waking up to the reality of ‘unreal’ beauty images that infiltrate our lives every single day.

We are not yet in an era of un-photoshoped beauty role models but it is worth observing the recent critique of heavily airbrushed celebrity images in advertisements. It is this conception of immaculate beauty that drives women to spend a fortune on their vanity every year…sometimes to the extent of offsetting a personal financial misfortune. The 30-billion-dollar-a-year cosmetic surgery industry in the United States is built on women’s insecurities and their devotion to these unrealistic beauty ideals. As much as we love to feast our eyes on flawless cover girls and skip over the fine print on the ‘digitally enhanced’ disclaimer, it is time to wake up to realistic conceptions of beauty and a media that buzzes with tangible beauty achievables.

We as a beauty brand are party to the beauty marketing bandwagon too but at Zinn we promote natural radiance that comes from pure and healthy treatment of your hair, skin and body…glow that emanates from sound and healthy treatment of the inner wells of beauty… and that philosophy is reflected in each creation of our all-natural and organic line. So let’s embrace au-natural beauty and say no to chasing photoshoped illusions!

The Natural Beauty Cabinet

admin | July 27, 2011

Take a hard look at your beauty cabinet. You may not know it, but chances are you have products that use harmful ingredients, increasing your exposure to possible toxins and parabens that can possibly lead to health problems down the road. Deodorants, soaps, toothpaste, face wash, lotion… The list of products you use daily that can carry harmful ingredients goes on and on.

Take toothpaste, for example. Some are filled with synthetic colors, fragrances, preservatives, and artificial sweeteners. Do you really want toothpaste that may clean your teeth but also delivers harsh ingredients, polluting your body?

Get educated about your natural options and live a cleaner, healthier lifestyle! We love natural grooming and beauty options that leave us naturally fresh and clean. Here’s how to revamp your daily grooming routine with natural products:

Toothpaste: Brighten your pearly whites with toothpaste free of harsh chemicals and preservatives, to limit your body’s exposure to chemicals. There are a number of natural toothpastes in the market today that replace synthetic chemicals like sodium laurel sulfate (SLS) with natural abrasives like calcium carbonate. What’s the plus side? No unnecessary side effects! Natural cleaning agents are less likely to irritate your gums and disrupt the natural order of moisture, acidity and other elements inside your mouth, which can lead to bad breath, cavities and gum infections.

Deodorant: Can a deodorant effectively work without aluminium compounds or chemical antiperspirants? Yes it can! Based on the traditional remedies of bicarbonate of soda, natural mineral salts, ammonia alum and similar compounds to eliminate odours, and natural herbs and fragrances such as rosemary, clove, sage, patchouli and lavendar, natural deodorants work just as well. These are a must have for the summers especially for those with weather and chemical related sensitivities.

Soaps: Beware of soap labels because unlike other skincare products, the FDA does not regulate soap labeling. Organic soaps are made from plant based natural hydrating ingredients like coconut milk and retain higher levels of glycerin making the soap more gentle and skin-friendly. One of the basic and most important advantages is that organically produced soaps do not contain chemicals that get absorbed into your bloodstream through your skin. Look for natural soaps that leave little residue.

Skincare: Enhance your skin’s natural radiance with products that do not unleash harmful chemicals on you. Most fragrances used in skincare products are known to be carcinogenic and mineral oils, once applied, prevent the skin from “breathing”, and alcohols dry out skin. Instead switch to natural products that leverage the hydrating properties of natural oils such as argan, jojoba, walnut and avocado. These natural oils will moisturize the skin and provide vitamins, which operate as antioxidants and eliminate those free radicals, which cause skin to age.

Natural Beauty Across The Globe

admin | July 6, 2011

Gone are the days when there was one stereotypical female role model to look up to. Barbie may have been the IT girl of past decades but women of all colors, shapes, and sizes are making their way in the fashion and beauty world. Looking at our culture today, we couldn’t be more thrilled at the kind of diversity that fills our magazines, films, and television screens, not to mention our political and educational industries. Who wants to stick with just one cookie-cutter look when there are so many diverse cultures that define beauty in their own terms?

Women like Padma Lakshmi, Kate Bosworth, Alexa Chung, Zoe Saldana and Sofia Vergara are gorgeous examples of what natural global beauty really is. Stunning, honest, and unique, on and off the screen we admire their dedication in keeping their beauty routines natural and simple. They know what looks good on them and always look confident. In the end, that’s what its all about right? Radiating confidence from every pore!

Want to know their beauty routines? Keep reading!

Top Chef TV Personality Padma Lakshmi sizzles both on and off the screen. But the exotic beauty keeps her beauty routine ultra simplified and uses natural products to moisturize her face and body. A fan of honey and jojoba oil, Padma thanks her clear complexion and lustrous hair to her love of essential oils that she keeps in her medicine cabinet.

Television beauty Sofia Vergara grew up adoring film stars like Sophia Loren and Raquel Welch. But she takes a more simple approach to beauty and accentuates the one feature in her face that she adores: her cat-shaped eyes. She lines them with a natural copper-colored pencil and blends the liner with a soft shadow brush. A couple of strokes of mascara and this Latin bombshell is ready to hit the town, looking as gorgeous as ever.

Kate Bosworth is a true California girl at heart with her sun-kissed hair, gorgeous skin, and tousled hair. She keeps her hair healthy by staying away from blow dryers and straightening irons, preferring to air dry instead. She also uses products that keep add texture and shine to her hair, giving her that golden glow. For her face, Kate is strict about nightly washes, stating “I’m super-conscious about my skin and have never gone to bed without washing my face with Cetaphil.”

English It-Girl Alexa Chung is known for her fresh take on style and beauty. You won’t see this style icon in heavy costume makeup. In fact, Alexa confesses, “I’m quite comfortable not wearing any makeup at all. Often, if I’m in New York in the summer, I won’t wear any – it’s so hot. But if I go out at night, I’ll do black eyeliner or brown pencil.”

Zoe Saldana keeps her make up clean and simple. She sticks with rose pink blush, which softens and warms her face. Another favorite is winged eyeliner, which brings out her eyes and draws attention to her full brows. While Zoe loves to play with her look, she makes sure that her makeup accentuates her face, not overwhelms it.
